MEET LINDA SWAIN

My name is Linda Swain, and I’m honored and excited about the opportunity to serve on the Newton School Committee. I’m running for the Ward 2 seat, which is voted on by all Newton residents.

Nearly 20 years ago, my family moved to Newton when our son was an infant. We were eager to settle in a city known for its outstanding schools. My husband, George Guzzi, grew up in Newton and attended Newton Public Schools, so we had firsthand knowledge of the excellence and strength of the school system.

Two smiling people, a woman and a man, sitting on chairs outdoors at night, illuminated by a fire or light source, with a bucket of supplies nearby.

I’ve been an active member of our community, serving as President of the Cabot After School Board and, most recently, as Co-President of the Newton North Boosters Association. With my youngest now preparing to graduate from Newton North, I’ve had the unique opportunity to experience the full journey through Newton Public Schools—from Cabot Elementary to Day Middle School to Newton North High School.  With both of my children heading to college next year, I’m ready to focus my time and energy on strengthening the school system that gave them such a strong foundation.

Growing up in a household where my mother was a special education teacher, I learned early on the value of public education. That foundation has shaped my commitment to our schools and ultimately inspired my desire to serve on the School Committee.
